E3 08: Resistance Retribution Hands-On Impression

One of the things that caught my eye during the Sony Press Briefing was the portable version of Resistance for the PSP. At first I was skeptical of how the game would turn out, but Sony has given me a chance to go hands-on with the game in the Sony Press Room.

Resistance: Retribution is a sequel to the first game on the Playstation 3. However, Nathan Hale won’t be in this game. Instead you’ll be controlling British Marine James Grayson who will try to avenge his fallen brother and retake Europe by himself. This takes place a few weeks after the events of Resistance: Fall of Man.

In the demo build that I’ve played in Sony Press Room, it briefly let us experience on how the game works on the PSP. At first, the controls can be confusing at times due to its auto-aim feature which you can turn off to manual if desired. It takes some time to get used with the control. One of the things that impresses me is the graphics of the game. It can’t compete with the PS3 title of the game but it’s one of the PSP games that has the most gorgeous graphics right now.

The AI of the game is pretty smart. As I was trying to hunt down this group of Chimera on my way to the elevator, I kept on dying for some reason. The movement of the AI in the game is pretty good and it gives you a decent amount of challenge. Weapons from the original Resistance are still in the game so to anyone who loved the first game will really enjoy this one. The firing is done by pressing the L & R triggers. The R button is basically used for your primary weapon while the L is for your secondary weapon. Overall, it’s either you’re gonna love the controls or hate them.

My overall experience of Retribution had somehow lived up to my expectation. With its awesome graphics, and intense gameplay, I just can’t wait to fully play the retail version of the game. However, the game won’t be released until Spring of 2009. For now, stay tuned here at GamersPlatform for all inside news of this game.
