E3 08: Wii Music Impressions

Wii Music was yet another game that Nintendo showed off today in order to entice both the casual and core markets, although I believe it will be better for the casual. This is a game that players have been waiting for ever since it was demoed when the Wii was announced, and now we finally get some solid details about the game and what it will feature.

The game looks some what impressive, especially with its over 60 playable instruments. To play each instrument, you simply mimic the motion that you would use to actually play it. The game is also very simplified, in terms of music games, and you simple need to make these motions to make noise, and you don’t have to worry so much about timing or button presses to get the exact note. The note needed will automatically play.

There seem to be a lot of modes too, including training and conductor mode, so that will help to fledge out the experience. You can also take video of your jam sessions and send them to your friends who also have the game, where they can watch it and improve it and send it back to you. Also, after your done with a song, you can view the playback, which will show off dramatic camera angles and such.

And perhaps the coolest mode in the game, the drum mode, gives you a virtual drum set to rock out on, where you can also use the balance board for drum pedals. However, I guess in this day and age of Rock Band and GH: World Tour, it isn’t as impressive as it would have been.

Expect the game to launch this holiday season.
