Drill Dozer is a newly released game on the now fading GBA.Games like this prove that the system isn’t out of games.
Drill Dozer has you taking the role of Jill. Jill is one part of the gang the Red Dozers. Another gang by the name of the Skullers stole the Red Diamond from the Red Dozer gang. Taking the role of Jill it’s up to you to lead your team in an adventure to retrieve the Red Diamond and to stop evil.
The game play in Drill Dozer is very interesting. Throughout the entire game you use your drills to complete each level. Each level you enter you must find 2 gears, which will give your character more power to break through stronger areas. The basic way the drill works is you can hold either the L or R button down and a little gauge will fill. Once you collect more gear pieces you will be able to switch into different gears. As each gauge fills you need to hit either L or R to shift to the next gear each more powerful then the last.
You will also find your self-using your drills for thing like double jumping, moving through tunnels and a lot more. At first when you start playing the game you kind of think is this it? However as you keep progressing you learn many more moves and ways to complete each level and the game just keeps on getting better as you progress.
Graphically this game is great looking. The fun character designs, the nice backdrops really add to this games great gameplay. There are items in the worlds like boxes, statues and other items that are all destroyable. The game features nice animations when the bosses are defeated. The little cut scenes are colorful and enjoyable to watch. Each level itself is unique as well. They offer a nice level of challenge and they are all surprisingly good in length. The game from start to finish remains fresh not a ton of repeating graphically in the levels.
Musically this game again is very pleasant. Now it doesn’t feature a full symphonic score it is just a GBA game but the music is catchy and nicely fits into the game. The soundtrack really has an old Kirby or megaman sound going on and it is nice.
Drill Dozer is a complete package. It’s very hard to find much bad about a game like this. The controls are solid; graphically it’s great, catchy tunes and a fun story. If you own a DS, GBA or Micro this is a definite game that should be added to anyone’s collection it really is a joy to play.
